I have organized a Community Reader event in conjunction with Read Across America. The event began in 2015 and has gotten bigger each year. We have district leaders, authors, and community workers. We even have readers come dressed as they character they are going to read about. These pictures are from our March 2020 Community Reader Day.
Student work STEM projects in class. They research the topic using digital and print tools. Then they share their research. Finally they are given a task with specific goals complete as a team. For this project students needed to make a Penguin hideout that included a rockery and a slide.
A local artist and I brought the book "A Splash of Red" to life as the children made their own watercolor with a splash of red. |
Students use LEGOs to build a story and then write about it. |
I work to write grants to get the materials for my classroom, such as several OSMOs for math and spelling activities. |

Students use PicCollage and upload their products in their Seesaw digital portfolio. We have used PicCollage to reflect on character actions and words to decided on character traits, take shape hunts, and have fun with write and thinking about the teacher's Halloween costume.

Tournament of Books is way that I have promoted reading as a teacher. Have done this for 6 years each years. I have completed the project with second graders, first graders, the whole school, and individual grade levels. |
